Bible Discovery Group
Participant Responsibilities
This includes all of us. Just because some
have functions to carry out for the evening does not leave the rest
of us off the hook! It is our meeting. It is our choice to come and
our choice to have an interesting, interactive meeting discovering,
with the help of the Holy Spirit, the truths in the scripture we
read, and discussing how these truths can apply to our lives today.
This can only happen if we all:
• Come ready to assist
• Encourage the facilitator--maybe to help to bring the topic back
into focus
• Are willing to pray, read scripture and contribute by sharing our
life experience in our walk with the Lord with others.
• Are willing to share our joys and maybe our concerns for prayer
To accomplish the above, we need to be reading our Bible during the
week. This may be a daily scheduled event for you, and that is a
good thing. For others, it may be just picking up God’s Word during
the day and pondering on what He has you open it to. Perhaps you
want to read ahead in the book we are discovering. Please do so.
This is helpful in that you have given the Word time to grow in you
and time for the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what He wants you to
get out of it for you, for today.
Recall that this is not a Bible study. We are not reading to find
out about how things were historically or to figure out what was
going on at that time. We are reading and asking God to reveal to
each of us what those words are to mean for our lives today. And
they may have different meanings for each of us. How exciting it is
to share our revelations.
Again, this is not a Bible study. The facilitator, even though s/he
may be a teacher or pastor on Sunday’s in a church, is not a teacher
at our Bible Discovery Group. S/he facilitates the discussion by
encouraging each of us to share our revelations about applying it to
our daily life.
